Grading Standards and Valuation

Color Grading

A medium to dark grass-green color is considered the most desirable in the international market. Chrome peridot from Mogok, Myanmar, containing 0.3%-0.5% Cr₂O₃, exhibits a "fluorescent neon green" and is known as a "dusk emerald" in collectors' circles. Prices can reach over $1,200 per carat.

Clarity and Cut

Natural peridot often contains inclusions, and clarity is graded from Flawless (FI) to Very Included (EI). High-quality gemstones require minimal inclusions, high transparency, and an emerald or round brilliant cut to maximize fire.

Weight and Market Price

Peridot's price increases exponentially with carat weight. Market data for 2025 shows:
5-10 carat intense green peridot from Mogok, Myanmar: $150-300/carat
2-3 carat yellowish green peridot from Arizona, USA: $20-50/carat
